Crown provides support to the System Approach for Safety Oversight (SASO) Program Office as a prime contractor. The FAA formed the SASO Program in the late 1990s and Crown supported the initial Concept of Operations and Requirements Definition. Crown continued to support the SASO Program, including investment analysis leading to several FAA Joint Resources Council (JRC) investment decisions, business process re-engineering, system engineering, and program, change and financial management.
The largest safety investment under the purview of the Associate Administrator for Aviation Safety (AVS) and one of 26 FAA major capital investment programs, SASO is transforming its workforce from reactive regulatory-based oversight to proactive risk-based oversight of the aviation industry. Its primary product is the Safety Assurance System (SAS), a web-based decision-making tool used by Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs) and Hazardous Materials Aviation Safety Inspectors.
Crown spearheaded the development and implementation of SASO’s processes and procedures for requirements definition and oversight, configuration control, and change management. We also were principal authors of the full spectrum of investment justification documents, including the concept of operations implementation strategy and the life cycle cost, schedule and benefits estimate.
