Crown provided support to EIA to support the National Oil and Gas Gateway. The National Oil and Gas Gateway is a collaborative initiative involving Ground Water Protection Council, states, and the DOE’s EIA and Office of Fossil Energy. The objective is to provide a user-friendly public platform presenting a national picture of well activity while enabling users to perform advanced queries and download data from custom searches.

Crown worked with EIA, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to ensure objectives were met.

The Gateway team adheres to agile methodologies. The website was developed, implemented, and quality checked iteratively. The database was developed and optimized to allow stakeholders to retrieve data formats. User Acceptance Testing, Dev, and QA environments were also used to adhere to Crown development standards.

Crown works with DOE/EIA program staff personnel to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and procedures and ensure that DOE, FISMA, and EIA security standards are strictly followed.

The use of agile principles permitted the team to maintain flexibility regarding scope and schedule. The Gateway has had to adjust to ad hoc enhancements and project deadlines and has done so smoothly, thanks to thorough planning and adherence to core agile principles. Due to this, the Gateway team has progressed the final product from inception to final functional interface in just 5 months, ready to present at a national conference.

Benefit to EIA: Metrics were captured to draw a more precise forecast and ensure success. Retrospectives are held at the sprint end, where lessons learned are captured to prevent repeat mistakes and to enhance the knowledge base for future teams. The Gateway project is run closely adhering to agile principles and permits a level of adaptability to correct any course of action to incorporate priorities and schedule constraints.
