Crown Consulting Inc. helped NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) develop the Sky for All vision. Sky for All is a high-level requirements vision of a mid-century airspace system that is increasingly complex, highly automated, and could equitably and efficiently accommodate all operators. Crown supported the production of a web-based interactive portal and a final report capturing the tenets of the vision. We provided technical project management, workshop development and execution, data and information analysis, and subject matter expertise input and analysis.

Crown was an integral member of the Sky for All project team that engaged with resident NASA experts and industry stakeholders to first develop a series of principles and aspirations to guide the vision development. Through a series of stakeholder workshops, our team expanded on the principles and aspirations to identify various opportunities and the communities that needed to be considered while developing this new airspace system. These boundaries helped to shape the research and development (R&D) needs to be addressed. The R&D needs stemmed from barriers that need to be overcome and questions answered to achieve the capabilities required within defined 5-year epochs out to 2045.

The vision is founded on four interconnected cornerstones that define the full realization of the 2045 vision. The Sky for All cornerstones are:

  • Cooperative and Highly Automated Operations
  • Integrated, Distributed Information Infrastructure
  • Automation and Ecosystem Performance
  • Integrated Safety Assurance

Benefit to NASA: Crown was instrumental in the development of the vision by providing overall project management — coordinating the actions, schedule and ensuring completion of deliverables from the Sky for All team. We also guided a team of web developers to create and publish three public-facing web pages presenting the tenets of the vision. Our aeronautics subject matter experts provided advice, recommendations, and integrated stakeholder input through the development and execution of several stakeholder workshops to create and refine the final vision.
