This contract provides a variety of services for the State University of New York (SUNY) in the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS or drone) field. The project began with SUNY requesting an overview of drone operations and the process of how the technology could be used to expedite and broaden their hospital services. Initial requests included expanding their medical and pharmaceutical delivery routes by the use of drones. The process included training for their pilots and selection of drones best suited for medical package drone delivery.
Regulatory clearances with multiple government agencies were required as SUNY requested expansion of their operation area.
Crown utilized the following skill sets to execute this contract:
- UAS/commercial pilot – certificated and experienced
- Project manager
- Aviation and airspace analysts
- Senior aviation SME
- Regulatory and strategy advisor
- Tasks include:
- Planning for UAS operations (e.g., pharmaceutical delivery)
- Working with the SUNY team and FAA to obtain waivers
- Analyzing airspace for suitability for AAM operations
- Developing CONOPS for various missions and applications
- Developing technical and budget strategy to achieve state objectives
Crown assisted SUNY with the development of their medical package delivery use cases and has successfully completed thousands of pharmaceutical deliveries.
