Section 804 of the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 (Public Law 112-95) requires the FAA to develop a plan for realigning and consolidating facilities to support the transition to NextGen and reduce the capital, operating, maintenance, and administrative costs of the FAA (where such cost reductions can be implemented without adversely affecting safety). The team is currently focusing on Terminal Radar Approach Control facilities. To date they have analyzed twenty-six potential facilities for realignment.
The Section 804 Collaborative Workgroup is a collaborative workgroup of FAA, NATCA, and PASS representatives assigned to develop the facility realignment plan.
