Michael Hlavaty serves as Senior Director of Engineering at Crown Innovations. He oversees program execution across Crown’s field engineering support portfolio and also leads corporate business development.
Hlavaty has 30-plus years of experience developing, integrating, and supporting complex systems and products, pairing a broad technical background with extensive program management experience. His work spans situational awareness, navigational aids, and flight safety systems, with sustained emphasis on compatibility between military and civil aviation and compliance with U.S. and international standards.
Over his career he has worked with the Department of Defense, FAA, National Telecommunications and Information Administration, Federal Communications Commission, National Security Agency, Department of Homeland Security and the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Before joining Crown, Hlavaty held senior engineering management positions at Kearfott Corp. and Telephonics Corp. Prior leadership roles include Senior Director of Engineering at Advanced Acoustic Concepts, Vice President of Engineering at DRS Technologies — where he was responsible for more than 250 engineers and product support personnel across five sites — and a series of directorships at BAE Systems covering navigation systems, advanced programs, and integrated communication, navigation, and identification programs.
Hlavaty holds a master’s degree in engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is a certified Project Management Professional.
