Crown applies human
factors (HF) expertise to ensure that new technologies, products, and
systems are designed and operated to optimize both human performance
and organizational goals.
This expertise is used to understand human
capabilities and limitations as they relate to the operation of increasingly
sophisticated and complex systems and their ability to support cognitive
activities and intellectual teamwork in context.
The Crown HF team includes
both human factors and systems engineers.
The team emphasizes a “human-centric”
systems approach to ensure that products and systems are designed and
operated with the human in mind - that is, that they are intuitive and
help the user solve problems and make decisions.
Put simply, we provide
analyses that make the work to be done by systems and people easier.
Our HF team has applied
its expertise in the following areas:
Product design
Usage/Usability studies
Human-automation and human-computer interaction
Advanced safety technology development
Human error and workload assessment
Human performance modeling
The team has conducted
research into how the blind listen to books on tape, and their desire
for next generation digital audio players. It is conducting research
on cellular phone and text pager use in the FAA to maximize the effectiveness
of these technologies.
It is working with health care facilities to
analyze and optimize medical procedures to minimize the risk of human
error and it brings an extensive record in supporting the development
and evaluations of such aviation technologies as:
- Voice Switching
Control System
- Display
System Replacement
